Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Got Hope Initiative is non-governmental Organization its nonprofit making organization, borne out of necessity to supplement government effort, other civil service organizations contributions for improving livelihoods of our people, religious institutions and other local efforts by groups, individuals and volunteers to ameliorate the living conditions of children.Got Hope Initiative is founded by members of Kihamba sub county who have themselves experienced a hard life due to a gap in development that has been ignored in the project area which is situated in Kihamba sub-county, Kyegegwa District in the republic of Uganda (East Africa). All members agreed that our poor rural children will always remain poor unless efforts are made to tackle the underlying courses of poverty, ignorance and diseases. (HIV/AIDS, POVERTY AND ILLITERACY, are the common problem in our community)The local poor people wants medical assistance education for there children, clean water, support to widows, orphans and other destitute. Got Hope Initiative was formed to improve livelihood of the rural disadvantaged children /orphans and poor people through collective and participatory which enhance there social and economic development. At the moment we have a number of families we assist and 13 children (but the demand it too high to add others) we offer to them social services, provision of basics with small school items like pencils, pen form donations, teaching personal hygiene, providing sports center, providing free library for the children to get access to the books and reading
The mission of Got Hope Initiative is empowering the rural and Marginalized disadvantaged children and poor people in the Community so as to enable them to participate in a bottom up process in activities that will enhance their Social and economic life through resource mobilization and training.
Tackling the Issue
The remoteness makes life a real challenge for the villagers. They are far from facilities that we take for granted, including electricity and water. The local children have to carry water from the valleys up to their homes and are expected to bring a Jerrycan of water and a bundle of firewood before running off to school three or four miles away every morning. Over half of the population are under the age of 14 with over 60% of children being malnourished. Up to 50% of people are illiterate and the fertility rate is over 8 children/ woman. Over 85% of the population live on less that 1 US dollar each day and most people survive by subsistence farming. Education is the only way to break the vicious cycle of poverty. HIV/AIDS and unemployment are special challenges and school drop outs are most vulnerable.
